My notes and questions on the 18-day devotional from R.C. Sproul on Knowing God.

- Proverbs 1:7 – “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, But fools despise wisdom and instruction.” The “fear of the Lord” means reverence; deep respect for someone or something. Fearing God equals the beginning of knowledge. Therefore, you haven’t started to attain knowledge until you first fear God. Fools despise wisdom and instruction because they do not fear God. A lack of wisdom and knowledge results in sin. Ultimately, sin is foolish and righteousness is wisdom.

- Proverbs 10:27 – “The fear of the Lord prolongs days, But they years of the wicked will be shortened.” Righteousness, which came from knowledge and wisdom which came from the fear of the Lord, then leads one to live in God’s way. Living in God’s way prolongs your days.
- Proverbs 16:6 – “In mercy and truth Atonement is provided for iniquity; And by the fear of the LORD one departs from evil.” By God’s mercy and truth, He provides a way for us sinners and by the fear of the LORD, we will never go back to our sinful ways.
- So how can one attain the fear of the Lord?
