Verse 1 says that God created them male and female and called their name Adam. This is in the KJV version. In the NKJV, the word Mankind is used instead. This aligns with how the word man was once used to refer to both male and female. Today it’s mostly used to refer to the male.
God created us in His image and also made us to reproduce children in our own image. Seth, Adam’s son, then was essentially a copy of a copy of God. We are all a copy of God, therefore God’s image is perpetuated throughout time.
